Chiaroscuro in London
Following the Paris presentation in April, Hugo Cahill’s work returned to PAD with Second Pétale in Berkeley Square. Curated by Arina Pouzoullic, The Halo: Light and Jewelry explored the connection between light, artistic creation and the divine. The presentation brought contemporary jewellery into dialogue with Anthélia, an immersive light work by visual artist and lighting designer Odile Soudant.
For Hugo, Chiaroscuro approached light through material contrast: the patinated surfaces of Japanese copper alloys, the warmer colour of gold and the reflections produced by diamonds. These differences were part of each jewel’s construction, rather than a finish applied to a neutral form.
Selected work
Ananke Lovelace
Shibuichi and gold form the necklace’s structure, with blue and purple diamonds establishing two distinct fields of colour. Named for Ananke and Ada Lovelace, the jewel connects a mathematical point of departure with an asymmetrical composition.
Ananke Lovelace was included in Second Pétale’s published selection for PAD London 2025.
The exhibition setting
A sequence of illuminated vitrines framed each designer’s work. Above them, curved panels and surface patterns extended the gallery’s theme of light through the stand, while dark backgrounds separated the silhouettes of the jewels.
